Senior Officer, Safeguarding

JOB PURPOSE:

The Safeguarding Officer will work as part of the central safeguarding team. The role will support the  Senior Safeguarding Manager  to implement safeguarding-related activities that include: strengthening the organization’s capacity to implement safeguarding policies, procedures and measures which meet international standards and are locally relevant; supporting to ensure safeguarding elements are included in the program design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and partnerships of BRAC Uganda; conduct needs assessment and training for country office capacity development as needed. The incumbent will also support in preparing communications and reports for various mediums such as the annual organizational report, CMT meetings, and other relevant internal and external meetings.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist and support Safeguarding Manager, in the implementation of safeguarding across Brac Uganda by delivering training to country teams, helping them to conduct safeguarding risk assessments and integrate safeguarding measures in programs and operations including capacity development of local partners.
  • Support Safeguarding Manager, to strengthen the capacity of safeguarding champions by conducting awareness building sessions and through the exchange of information to and from different departments/regions on safeguarding-related matters, for example, monthly reports, support needed, and new initiatives
  • Support Safeguarding Manager, to practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
  • Coordinate with Safeguarding focal person to address and report concerns regarding failure to mitigate and safeguarding issue.
  • Ensure that confidentiality and the security of all are maintained in case of incidents
  • Submit technical reports in accordance with the work plan and established deadlines, while ensuring that all activities are conducted and reported through accurate and verifiable reporting system.
     

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Social Science, Gender studies, Law, Sociology, Human rights or any other relevant discipline.
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience in the areas of child/adult safeguarding, protection, gender or GBV in any reputed organization.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Excellent understanding on safeguarding activities in designing, implementation and assessment in different contexts and geographies, Knowledge of safeguarding approaches for programmatic and organizational interventions, Clear communication and public speaking skills, capable of delivering messages appropriately to a variety of audiences, Capable of working both individually and as part of a team, Ability to prioritize and deal with competing demands to deliver results, Ability to work under pressure and manage tight deadlines, Ability to understand people in an unbiased way, Excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills.
