1. Background

BRAC is a leading global development organisation working to empower people and communities living in poverty. Founded in 1972 by Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, BRAC operates in 11 countries across Asia and Africa. With a focus on women’s empowerment and innovative, evidence-based solutions, BRAC addresses poverty, illiteracy, disease, and social injustice through holistic, community-driven programmes. By empowering individuals, especially women and girls, along with their families and communities, BRAC aims to create lasting change and break the cycle of poverty.

The Mastercard Foundation’s AIM (Accelerating Impact for Young Women) programme, in partnership with BRAC International, aims to empower 2 million adolescent girls and young women across seven African countries. The programme provides entrepreneurship, employability, and life-skills training, alongside access to finance and markets. It takes a holistic and integrated approach, with three components designed to work together to create a multiplier effect:

  • Social empowerment

  • Education and Livelihoods

  • Enabling environment

2. Introduction & Objective of the Consultancy

This consultancy supports the AIM Programme's Social Empowerment component by developing a comprehensive set of illustrations for its life-skills curriculum, which is delivered through structured clubs for four participant groups: Very Young Adolescents (12–14 years), Adolescent Girls (15–17 years), Young Women (18–24 years), and Experienced Adults (25+ years). The curriculum covers key themes including sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response, financial literacy, mental health and wellbeing, safeguarding, climate resilience, family engagement, and leadership development.

The successful consultant will develop a consistent visual style and recurring character set, produce 69 participant-page illustrations that communicate learning concepts with minimal reliance on text, and ensure all illustrations are culturally relevant, inclusive, age-appropriate, and aligned with BRAC's branding guidelines. The assignment also includes copy-editing and formatting the curriculum, as well as developing a clear, user-friendly layout for the 86-page facilitator guide. All deliverables must be provided in editable and print-ready formats suitable for high-quality production and use in low-resource settings across Africa.
